So many people stress out over the holidays because of anxiety over things like hosting parties, traveling, money, cleaning the house, putting up decorations, writing cards, buying gifts, the in-laws, getting everything done in time, and preventing weight gain.  Geesh!  That’s enough to make anyone’s head spin!  So what’s modern mom to do?

Here are seven simple steps to help you get in control of your holidays so you can enjoy them instead of dreading them…

  1. Have master plan and stick to it! Get a binder to keep all of your important details in and refer to it each week.
  2. Plan ahead!!! Plan ahead!!! Plan ahead!!! this will save you headaches later. Write important dates and times on your calendar and in your smart phone now.  If traveling, make your itinerary and keep it in your binder.
  3. Make a budget: it will save stress in January!
  4. Enlist support from others: family can help with chores, baking, wrapping, decorating, and cleaning the house; give a gift to yourself by hiring a maid to clean your house before and after the holiday, hire a company to string up the lights this year, and don’t feel that you have to do EVERYTHING from scratch.  It is okay to take some shortcuts to make things easier on you!
  5. Shop online: I start my shopping in July and have 95% of everything done before Thanksgiving.  But don’t fret if you are just getting started…there are plenty of fantastic deals to be had from trusted sites like Amazon.com, Target, and Walmart.
  6. Send ecards this year: save yourself soooo much time by sending some fun ecards to family and friends.
  7. Skip the traveling this year: have a simple holiday at home with your immediate family. YES, you are allowed!
